Stay Safe
Chat Safety Tips
Your safety is our top priority at Snatch Social. We want you to have a positive and secure experience when chatting with others. This guide provides important safety tips and information about the tools available to protect yourself.
Important: If you feel unsafe or are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. For non-emergency situations, use the reporting and blocking features in the app.
General Safety Tips
- Take your time: Get to know someone through conversation before sharing personal information or meeting in person.
- Protect your personal information: Never share your home address, phone number, financial information, or passwords with someone you've just met online.
- Trust your instincts: If something feels off or makes you uncomfortable, trust that feeling and take action to protect yourself.
- Be cautious with photos: Think carefully before sharing photos, especially personal or revealing images. Once shared, you can't control where they go.
- Watch for red flags: Be wary of users who pressure you for personal information, money, or to meet in person too quickly.
- Keep conversations in the app: Stay on the Snatch Social platform for messaging. Scammers often try to move conversations to other platforms.
How to Block a User
If someone is making you uncomfortable or you no longer want to receive messages from them, you can block them. Blocking a user will:
- Prevent them from sending you messages
- Hide your profile from them
- Remove them from your matches and connections
- Prevent them from seeing your online status
Steps to Block a User:
- Open the chat conversation with the user you want to block
- Tap on the user's name or profile picture at the top of the chat
- Scroll down and select "Block User" or "Block"
- Confirm your decision when prompted
You can also block a user from their profile page by tapping the three dots menu and selecting "Block User".
Note: Blocked users will not be notified that you've blocked them. You can unblock users at any time from your Settings → Blocked Users section.
How to Report a Message or User
If you receive inappropriate, harassing, or concerning messages, please report them. Our moderation team reviews all reports and takes appropriate action, which may include warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans.
Steps to Report a Message:
- Open the chat conversation containing the message you want to report
- Long-press (or tap and hold) on the specific message
- Select "Report" from the menu that appears
- Choose the reason for reporting (harassment, spam, inappropriate content, etc.)
- Add any additional details if needed
- Submit the report
Steps to Report a User:
- Open the chat conversation with the user you want to report
- Tap on the user's name or profile picture at the top of the chat
- Scroll down and select "Report User" or "Report"
- Select the reason for reporting
- Provide any additional context or details
- Submit the report
What to Report: Harassment, threats, spam, fake profiles, inappropriate content, requests for money, attempts to move conversations off-platform, or any behavior that makes you feel unsafe.
What Happens After You Report
- Our moderation team will review your report, typically within 24-48 hours for urgent matters.
- We may reach out to you for additional information if needed to investigate the report.
- If the report is valid, we'll take appropriate action against the reported user, which may include warnings, temporary restrictions, or permanent account removal.
- For privacy reasons, we cannot share specific details about actions taken against other users, but we take all reports seriously.
- You can continue to use the app normally while your report is being reviewed. Consider blocking the user if you want to stop receiving messages from them immediately.
Meeting in Person Safely
If you decide to meet someone from Snatch Social in person, follow these safety guidelines:
- Meet in a public place: Choose a well-lit, public location like a café, restaurant, or event venue.
- Tell a friend: Let someone you trust know where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to return.
- Arrange your own transportation: Drive yourself or use a ride-sharing service. Don't rely on your date for transportation.
- Stay sober: Keep your wits about you, especially on a first meeting.
- Keep your phone charged: Make sure your phone is fully charged and easily accessible.
- Trust your instincts: If something feels wrong, leave. You don't owe anyone your time or attention.
Recognizing Red Flags
Be cautious if someone:
- Asks for money, financial assistance, or personal financial information
- Pressures you to share personal information or meet in person too quickly
- Refuses to video chat or meet in person after extended conversation
- Makes excuses for why they can't meet or talk on the phone
- Claims to be in an emergency and needs help
- Sends you links to external websites or asks you to download apps
- Uses inconsistent information or their story doesn't add up
- Becomes aggressive, threatening, or overly sexual in messages
